Man kills wife, gets caught transporting body on scooter

Pune, India: A harrowing incident in Pune, Maharashtra, has reignited concerns over domestic violence and mental health, as a man was apprehended in the act of transporting his wife’s body on a two-wheeler during the early hours of May 5.

The accused, identified as Rakesh Ramnayak Nisar, was intercepted by patrolling officers from the Ambegaon and Bharati Vidyapeeth police stations near Bhumkar Bridge, within the jurisdiction of Nanded City Police Station of Pune Commissionerate. Officers became suspicious of Nisar’s movements and stopped him for questioning. Upon investigation, they discovered the lifeless body of his wife, Babita, on the vehicle.

Preliminary findings indicate that Nisar allegedly strangled his wife to death during a domestic altercation. According to police, the murder occurred late on May 5, after which the suspect attempted to dispose of the body by transporting it from their residence toward the Swaminarayan Temple area.

Authorities say the arrest was made on the spot, and a murder case has been formally registered. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death. Investigators are currently probing the motive behind the killing, which is believed to have stemmed from personal or marital conflict.

The incident has shocked residents across Pune, drawing widespread media attention and community outcry. Senior police officials confirmed that further forensic and psychological evaluations are being conducted as part of the ongoing investigation.

Law enforcement agencies have urged the public to report signs of domestic violence, emphasizing the importance of early intervention in preventing such tragedies. The case continues to unfold as authorities seek to establish the full sequence of events leading to the crime.
