Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh, India
: In a shocking case of suspected infidelity, a man allegedly shot his wife with an illegal firearm in Shahjahanpur district of Uttar Pradesh on April 23 morning, leaving her critically injured. The accused, Shakeel Khan—also known as Nanhe—is the son of Kant Nagar Panchayat Chairperson, Munara Begum.

Authorities report that the incident stems from a confrontation that began late night of April 22, when Shakeel returned home around midnight and allegedly discovered his wife, 28-year-old Nigar Khan alias Reena, in an intimate situation with a local Common Service Center operator. Upon being caught, the other man reportedly fled the scene.

Following a heated argument with his wife, Shakeel left the house. The next morning, Nigar, accompanied by their young son, attempted to reach Shakeel at one of his known locations via auto-rickshaw. When she finally located him around 11 am on April 23 in Kant town, another altercation ensued regarding the previous night’s incident.

During the dispute, Shakeel allegedly drew a country-made pistol tamanchaa) and shot Nigar in the lower abdomen. She was immediately rushed to the Government Medical College in Shahjahanpur, where she remains in critical condition.

Superintendent of Police Rajesh Dwivedi confirmed the arrest of the accused. Shakeel was taken into custody by the Kant Police and has since been sent to judicial custody. The firearm used in the attack has been recovered.

Further complicating the case, Nigar's mother has filed a separate complaint alleging dowry harassment, naming Shakeel and his elder brother, Rais Miyan—a former Nagar Panchayat chairman—as co-accused.
