Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, India: A 21-year-old woman was allegedly raped by her husband’s friend at her home in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, on April 23, 2025, while she was alone with her infant daughter. Local police swiftly arrested the accused, identified as Ranjit Prajapati, before he could flee the area.

According to police reports, the incident occurred in the Tighra Road locality under the jurisdiction of Janakganj Police Station. The woman was at home with her five-month-old baby when Prajapati, a known acquaintance and friend of her husband, arrived unexpectedly claiming he had stopped by for a visit.

Trusting him due to his connection with her husband, she let him inside. While they were conversing, her baby began to cry, prompting her to step into another room to calm the child. Upon returning, the accused allegedly forced her into a separate room and sexually assaulted her. When the woman attempted to resist, Prajapati reportedly threatened to kill her child, compelling her to remain silent out of fear.

After her husband returned later that evening, the woman confided in him about the incident. The couple immediately approached Janakganj Police Station to file a formal complaint.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Niranjan Sharma confirmed that a case of rape had been registered and the accused was taken into custody shortly thereafter. Authorities have begun formal legal proceedings while continuing the investigation.

The case has sparked renewed concerns about the safety of women in domestic spaces and the psychological trauma endured by survivors, especially in cases involving known acquaintances.
