Sangli, Maharashtra, India – In a harrowing case of domestic violence, a man strangled his 28-year-old wife to death while under the influence of alcohol and attempted to hide her remains in an aluminium electrical panel box. The shocking incident occurred on March 27, 2025, in Mangle village, Shirala tehsil of Sangli district, located in the western Indian state of Maharashtra.

The accused, Mangesh Kamble, and his wife, Prajakta Kamble, resided in Mumbai with their two young children, aged four and two. They had travelled to Sangli to visit Mangesh’s brother and mother, who lived in a rented house in Mangle village.

Crime Unfolds Amid Domestic Dispute

On Thursday morning, an argument erupted between Mangesh and Prajakta. In a fit of rage, Mangesh grabbed a stole and strangled his wife. Upon realizing that she had died, he folded her limbs and stuffed her body into an aluminium electrical panel box. To avoid immediate suspicion, he covered the box with clothes and an empty gunny sack.

Following the incident, Mangesh called his brother, Nilesh, requesting a motorcycle. However, his four-year-old son inadvertently revealed the gruesome crime to his uncle. Alarmed, Nilesh contacted Mangesh and urged him to surrender, warning that fleeing could put their mother and children in legal jeopardy.

Surrender and Investigation

Mangesh ultimately agreed and turned himself in at Shirala police station. Meanwhile, Prajakta’s mother, Ranjana Arjun Chandane (45), filed a police complaint, demanding justice for her daughter.

Authorities suspect that Mangesh was driven by jealousy and mistrust over his wife’s character. The investigation is on-going, with police examining all aspects of the case, including Mangesh’s history of alcohol abuse and possible prior instances of domestic violence.
