Bengaluru, India – In a shocking case of familial crime, a 37-year-old real estate businessman was allegedly murdered by his wife and mother-in-law over accusations of extramarital affairs and illicit business dealings. Authorities have arrested both the accused following a detailed investigation.

Crime Discovery and Initial Investigation

The body of the victim, identified as Loknath Singh, was discovered inside an abandoned vehicle in a deserted area of Chikkabanavara on March 22. Concerned citizens reported the finding to authorities via an emergency distress call at approximately 5:30 p.m. Local law enforcement swiftly responded and launched an inquiry into the murder.

North Bangalore Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Saidulu Adavath confirmed the arrest of the victim’s 19-year-old wife, Yashasvini Singh, and her 37-year-old mother, Hema Bai. Investigators revealed that Loknath was sedated before being fatally attacked with a knife.

Marital Conflict and Rising Tensions

Loknath Singh is reported to had been in a relationship with Yashasvini for two years before they officially registered their marriage in December, despite opposition from both families due to their age difference. However, shortly after the marriage, Loknath abandoned his wife at her parental home, leading to rising tensions.

The situation escalated two weeks ago when Yashasvini’s family became aware of her secret marriage and, subsequently, his alleged extramarital affairs and fraudulent business activities. Frequent arguments ensued, with Loknath reportedly threatening his wife’s family and coercing them into submission.

The Murder Plot

Investigators determined that the continuous harassment and threats from Loknath prompted Yashasvini and her mother to devise a plan to kill him. On the morning of the murder, Loknath called Yashasvini, informing her that he was coming to visit. Anticipating the meeting, the mother-daughter duo prepared food laced with sedatives and waited for the opportunity.

Loknath picked up Yashasvini in his SUV and drove to an isolated location in BGS Layout, North Bengaluru. He consumed alcohol along with the sedative-laced meal. As he began to lose consciousness, Yashasvini shared her location with her mother. Shortly thereafter, Hema Bai arrived at the scene armed with a knife. She stabbed Loknath twice in the neck as he attempted to escape. Despite running 150 meters in a desperate bid for survival, he collapsed near a parked autorickshaw. Bystanders who heard his cries alerted the police, but he succumbed to his injuries before medical assistance could arrive.

Legal Proceedings and Further Investigations

Authorities have confirmed that Loknath was already under investigation by the Bengaluru Central Crime Branch for alleged fraud. His threats and erratic behavior in recent months had created an increasingly hostile environment, leading to this tragic culmination.

Both accused individuals remain in police custody as further investigations continue. Authorities are expected to file formal charges in court in the coming days.

This case has sparked discussions on domestic violence, self-defense, and the legal ramifications of retaliatory crimes in India. Law enforcement officials are urging individuals facing domestic abuse or threats to seek legal assistance rather than resorting to violence.
