Incident Overview

The accident occurred near Nandgaon Pati in Chakur tehsil around 2 pm when the ST bus, traveling from Ahmedpur to Latur, swerved sharply to avoid a motorcycle that suddenly entered its path. The driver lost control, causing the vehicle to skid and hit the median before overturning off the highway. The bus was carrying 48 passengers, including women and students traveling for examinations, say officials.

Several victims suffered fractures and other serious trauma due to the force of the crash.

Eyewitness Accounts & CCTV Footage

Meanwhile, Jalna Superintendent of Police Somay Mundhe said, "We have registered a case of rash driving causing accident and injuring people, against the bike rider. And, have formed a team to track and nab him." He also commended the bus driver for his alertness and saving lives.

Calls for Stricter Road Safety Measures

The crash has reignited concerns about reckless driving and the need for stricter traffic enforcement. Experts emphasize that better adherence to road regulations and improved highway infrastructure could prevent such accidents. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, examining potential negligence and policy lapses.

This accident underscores the urgent need for enhanced traffic monitoring and public awareness campaigns to prevent further tragedies on Indian highways.
