The suspects, identified as Lakhvir Singh and Arvinder Singh, both residents of Bakkapur village, were apprehended in a swift operation led by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh. The operation was conducted under the supervision of SP (Investigation) Jasrup Kaur Bath and DSP Sarwan Singh Bal, with a special team led by Inspector Sanjeev Kapur playing a pivotal role in the arrests.
The victim, Jagtar Singh, a resident of Akalpur village, was attacked on the evening of January 5. His wife, Seema Rani, filed a complaint stating that her husband was assaulted around 7 pm by a group of 7 to 8 individuals armed with deadly weapons. The attack was reportedly the result of a longstanding dispute.
The Jalandhar Rural Police promptly initiated an investigation, forming multiple teams. Through witness statements, technical surveillance, and ground-level intelligence, they uncovered critical leads that led to the arrests of Lakhvir Singh and Arvinder Singh. During interrogation, the suspects confessed to harbouring resentment against Jagtar Singh, whom they blamed for opposing their frequent alcohol consumption near the village. This grudge motivated the fatal attack.
A case has been registered at Phillaur Police Station under Sections 103(2), 61(2), 191(3), and 190 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The suspects have been remanded to police custody for further investigation, while the victim’s post-mortem examination was conducted at the Civil Hospital in Phillaur.
SSP Khakh assured the public that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects involved in the crime. He emphasized the commitment of the Jalandhar Rural Police to maintaining law and order and delivering swift justice in criminal cases.
