A gruesome murder case has emerged from Dewas in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, where a man allegedly killed his live-in partner and kept her body in a refrigerator for months. The crime came to light after a foul smell emanated from a locked portion of the rented house when the electricity supply was turned off.

 The Discovery

The decomposed body of the victim, identified as Pinky Prajapati, was found wrapped in a sari with jewellery, her hands tied, and a noose around her neck. The refrigerator's shelves had been removed to accommodate the body. The discovery was made on January 10, after the landlord, alerted by complaints from neighbours about the odour, opened the locked portion of the house and called the police.

Background of the Case

The accused, Sanjay Patidar, a resident of Ujjain, had been in a live-in relationship with Pinky for five years. According to police, Pinky, in her 30s, had been pressuring Sanjay for marriage. Troubled by her insistence, Sanjay, with the help of his friend Vinod Dave, allegedly strangled her to death in June 2024.

Sanjay had rented the house in June 2023 from the landlord, Dhirendra Shrivastava, who resides in Indore. In June 2024, Sanjay vacated most of the house but left his belongings in a locked portion, including the room with the fridge containing Pinky’s body. He promised the landlord he would collect his belongings later but failed to return.

How the Incident Came to Light

The landlord switched off the power supply to the locked portion on January 8 after a new tenant requested access. The refrigerator stopped working, causing the foul smell to spread. On inspection, the body was discovered, and the landlord alerted the police.

Investigation and Arrest

Sanjay was arrested in Ujjain by a police team led by ASP Jaiveer Bhadoria. During interrogation, he admitted to the crime and revealed that he had planned the murder with his friend, Vinod Dave, who is currently in jail for an unrelated case in the state of Rajasthan.

 Police Statement

Superintendent of Police Puneet Gehlot stated, “The woman was likely killed in June 2024. After the foul smell started emanating, neighbours called the landlord, who broke open the room and found the body. A post-mortem will be conducted by a panel of doctors to determine further details.”

On-going Investigation

The police are continuing their investigation, interrogating Sanjay to uncover more details about the murder and the involvement of his accomplice. This shocking case highlights the tragic consequences of unresolved relationship conflicts.
