In a
shocking double murder case, two 19-year-olds were arrested for killing a
mother and son at their residence in Sector 8 of Kamothe node in Panvel city in
the state of Maharashtra, India. The accused identified as Shubham Mahendra
Narayani and Sanjyot Mangesh Dodke, allegedly killed Jitendra Jaggi (45) and
his mother Geeta Jaggi (70), following the deceased Jitendra's alleged homosexual
advances during a New Year’s party.
Crime Unfolds
The crime was uncovered after neighbours reported a gas leak from the Jaggi residence. On entering the flat, police and fire brigade personnel discovered the burners of the gas stove turned on, and the flat filled with gas. The authorities acted swiftly to secure the scene, averting a potential explosion.Motive
and Arrest
Investigations
revealed that the accused were close friends of Jitendra, who had invited them
for New Year celebrations. During the party, Jitendra allegedly made sexual
advances toward both the accused. Enraged, Shubham attacked Jitendra with a
wooden extension board, causing fatal injuries. Geeta, hearing the commotion,
intervened and was strangled by Sanjyot to silence her.
To cover
their tracks, the accused turned on the gas burners and shut the windows,
intending to create the illusion of an accidental fire. However, their plan
failed due to timely intervention by neighbours and authorities.
CCTV
footage from the building helped police identify the suspects, who were seen
entering the flat on New Year eve and leaving early the next morning. The duo
was traced to Ulwe node, 15 kilometres away, where they were found disposing off
evidence, including their clothes.
Background
of the Accused
Shubham
Narayani worked as a delivery agent for a food app, while Sanjyot Dodke was a
second-year commerce student and part-time delivery boy. The two had become
friends with Jitendra after an earlier encounter involving Shubham taking his
dog for a walk.
Charges
and Legal Proceedings
Kamothe
police have charged the suspects with murder and other related offenses under
the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The swift action and collaboration between the
Kamothe police and Navi Mumbai Crime Branch have been commended.
