Roadside barricade falls on motorcyclists, one dies after coming under a truck
In a tragic
accident, a pillion rider was crushed to death after coming under the wheels of
a truck after being knocked down by a roadside barricade that crashed into the
motorcyclists.
The incident took
place on the Western Express Highway at Kandivili in Mumbai on September 12
evening.
At around 5 pm
26-year-old Prashant Ambekar was riding the bike with his friend 28-year-old
Manoj Pawar. They were returning home from Borivili when the accident took
place.
The incident was
captured on an CCTV installed nearby.
A barricade placed
along the road where a subway work was on fell on the motorcycle riders, who were
then pushed into the path of the moving truck. The barricade was very heavy due
to which the rider lost his balance and the pillion rider was thrown on the
road and was subsequently crushed under the wheels of a truck that was driving
alongside the bike.
While Pawar died
on the spot, Ambekar is said to be critical and undergoing treatment at
Shatabdi Hospital.
The police have
arrested the truck driver identified as Bablu Yadav for ‘negligent driving’ and
are investigating to find the MMRDA staff who put up the barricade there.
