Lucky escape for passengers after bus flips over in India

24 passengers travelling by a public transport bus in the state of Kerala, India, had a lucky escape after the bus flipped over when the bus driver maneuvered to avoid hitting an autorickshaw, on July 24.

The Kerala State Road Transport Corporation bus was heading to Kottayam from Kumily when the incident took place near the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Technology at Pampady, at around 3.30 pm. The accident got captured in CCTV of a shop nearby.

Just a the speeding was approaching Nedumkuzhy RIT Junction, an autorickshaw after picking passengers from Hotel Summer Sand took a turn and came on to the road. To avoid hitting the autorickshaw head-on, the bus driver tried to take evasive measures and applied the brake. But, in the process, he lost control and the speeding bus flipped over and fell into the courtyard of a house. 

Luckily, of the 24 passengers, while 21 escaped with minor injuries, three others suffered serious injuries. 

"The three seriously injured passengers are undergoing treatment at the Government Medical College Hospital, Kottayam," said Senior Police Constable T Vikraman of Pampady police station.

He also added that the autorickshaw driver 40-year-old Anup Kumar has been booked Indian Penal Code for negligence and voluntarily causing hurt.
