Cameraman gets bull-dozed!

Story by Sumesh Rajan
Mumbai: April 25, 2018

In a bullock cart race, called Rekla Race in local parlance, held recently in the south Indian state of Tamil Nadu, a cameraman and his assistant are literally bull-dozed by the charging bulls.

Rekla race is held during major festivals and is a crowd-puller with people gathering in large numbers to witness this sport which involves race bulls lugging makeshift carts a certain distance, ranging from 15 kilometers to 50 kilometers.

Rekla races are held under various categories on the basis of the bull’s size, height, capacity and physical fitness. While the big bulls have to cover the longest distance, those in other categories have to cover a shorter distance, and separate races are conducted for each category.

In the bullock cart race held as part of the Goddess Sri Muthumariamman temple festivities at Maviduthikottai village in the outskirts of Devakottai town in Sivaganga district of the state on March 28, many teams from across various parts of the state took part in the race. And, the organizers of the race engaged Raman Lekshman of Bagavathi Creations – a local videographer, to video shoot the event.

The road in the village is turned into a temporary race track. As the race starts, Raman and his assistant sitting on a motorbike get ready to shoot from the front, but misfortune strikes as the bike fails to start, and the raging bulls knock the duo down.

Onlookers rush to the rescue of the videographer and his assistant, even as the racing bulls hop over them, and pull them out to safety. Fortunately, the videographer and his assistant escaped with minor injuries and a loss of face.

  2. You fill your growing container with soil and moisten lightly. I have used old fish totes. (I used to work in a gourmet market with a fish department I managed, so theses were a dime a dozen and have many uses). Sprinkle your soaked seeds evenly across the moist soil.

  3. My entire working career up until that point had only been the safe route with a large corporation. You know the life. The daily grind. The BS you put up with because you figure this is the ONLY way. I even went on to get a psychology degree because the jobs I had been looking at required it. When I finished my degree I found that the amount of education I had was once again not enough.
