Lesson from Kerala floods : Human activities, climate change has disastrous effects on environment   Sagaya Fernando Mumbai: 19 October 2021   Overexploitation of natural resources and haphazard development by humans has led to climate change, resulting in long-lasting consequences on the environment. This is increasing health hazards and natural disasters, and more, day by day. The torrential flooding being witnessed recently in the state of Kerala in India is a prime example of this, say many experts.   This is not the first time that Kerala, a state of 34 million people, has been devastated by floods. It saw the worst floods in a century in 2018 when severe rains caused flash floods and landslides, killing nearly 500 people and leaving a million homeless. The following year, more than 125 people were killed in flash floods and landslides across the state. More than 50 were killed in August last year after landslides struck the hilly Munnar region.   The latest spell of torrential

Story by Sumesh Rajan
Mumbai: March 10, 2018

Chaos prevailed in Indore's Palhar Nagar area on March 9 morning when a leopard strayed into the locality. The sacred residents locked themselves up inside their homes and contacted the forest department officials.

The wild cat was initially spotted entering an under-construction building and later took refuge inside a bungalow, before it was drawn out and captured by forest officials. Apparently, scared of the din created by the people who had gathered around, the leopard leapt over the net and attacked a forest department official, catching him in the rear and hurling him on the ground. The hoots turned into screams as the leopard snarled at the crowd, baring its fangs and chased others close by. After that it darted into a house nearby. The terrified occupants of the house locked themselves inside a room, while the forest officials too efforts to tranquilize the wild cat. While two shots missed the target, the third one wearied down the big cat. The rescue operation lasted over three hours.

The forest officials then moved the leopard into a steel cage and carried it to the zoo.

Palhar Nagar, known for its stray dog menace, is surrounded by agricultural land, forest area and open stretches. Forest officials say that the leopard could wandered into the residential area to prey on the stray dogs.

  3. Carnage, genocide, hijacks, refugees, terror-attacks, ethnic conflicts are so normal these days that it would take another Bertolt Brecht, with his new age Alienation Effect to sensitize the world to the true depths of its evil. These are forms of violence inconceivable even for the most daring of the Modernist avant garde minds. Today we see art standing powerless and mute in the face of the gruesomeness of experience.

Having a wedding under one roof means the Bride and Groom can slope off to the Bridal suite after the cutting of the cake and the first dance, once the evening guests have arrived, if they want to get changed. The Bridal suite is also available for the Bride to get ready in, with hair and make up artists coming to you, or the Bride could travel from her home putting her dress on last minute to ensure it's wrinkle free. Bouquets and buttons holes can be derived to the venue, meaning less stress for the Bride trying to remember who is doing what and where everything will be.
