New Delhi, INDIA: A 38-year-old woman and her 13-year-old son were allegedly stabbed to death inside their residence in southeast Delhi’s Govindpuri area in the early hours of Thursday May 21, police said.
The victims were identified as Sharda Sahu, a homemaker, and her son, a Class 7 student. Police suspect robbery to be the primary motive behind the brutal double murder, as cash and jewellery were reportedly missing from the house.
According to officials, a PCR call regarding the incident was received at Govindpuri police station around 1.11 am from Gali No. 10 in Govindpuri, Kalkaji. Senior police officers, along with local police teams, rushed to the spot and secured the crime scene.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Sharda’s husband, Vishnu Sahu, who works as a fruit and vegetable vendor in weekly markets, returned home around 12.30 am and found the front door latched from outside. Upon entering the house, he allegedly discovered the bodies of his wife and son lying inside with multiple stab injuries.
Police said the condition of the house indicated a possible robbery attempt gone wrong. Almirahs inside the residence were reportedly ransacked, and valuables including cash and jewellery worth several lakhs are believed to have been stolen.
Crime Team and Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) officials inspected the scene and collected evidence. Investigators suspect the attackers used a sharp-edged weapon before fleeing the spot.
Delhi Police have registered a case under Sections 103 (murder) and 309(6) (robbery) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Multiple teams have been formed to identify and apprehend those involved in the killings.
The shocking incident triggered panic in the locality, with residents gathering outside the house as police continued their investigation. Officials said all possible angles are being examined and locals have been asked to share any information that could assist in the probe.
