Bengaluru, Karnataka, INDIA: A 35-year-old man was arrested for allegedly kicking a five-year-old boy who was playing on a road in Thyagarajanagar, south Bengaluru, in an unprovoked attack on December 14. The incident, captured on CCTV, later went viral on social media.
According to police, the incident occurred around 1.10 p.m. when the child, identified as Neiv Jain, was playing near his grandmother’s house along with other children. The accused allegedly approached the group and kicked the boy from behind without any provocation, causing him to fall on the road.
The boy sustained minor head injuries, including bleeding above the eyebrow, and abrasions on his hands and legs. His parents subsequently lodged a complaint with the police.
Based on the complaint, the police initially registered a non-cognisable report (NCR), which was later converted into a First Information Report (FIR) under Section 115(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, which pertains to voluntarily causing hurt.
Police identified the accused as Ranjith, also known as Ranjan, a resident of the same locality and a former gym trainer. CCTV footage reportedly shows the man walking up to the children, kicking the boy, and then leaving the spot as the child lay injured on the road.
During the investigation, police found that the accused has psychological issues and had suffered head injuries in a road accident last month. “His parents said they noticed a change in his behaviour after the accident. He has now been admitted to a hospital in Tamil Nadu,” an investigating officer said.
The accused was arrested and later released on bail by a Bengaluru court. Further investigation is underway.
