Engineering student bludgeoned to death by girlfriend’s family

Ameenpur, Telangana, INDIA: In a shocking incident from Telangana, a 19-year-old engineering student was allegedly beaten to death with a cricket bat by his girlfriend’s family during a domestic dispute in Ameenpur on Tuesday December 9. The victim, Kakani Jyothi Sravan Sai, a second-year BTech (Computer Science) student at St. Peter’s Engineering College, succumbed to injuries early Wednesday December 10 morning.


Was Called to Discuss Marriage


Sravan Sai, who lived in a rented room in Qutbullapur, had been in a relationship with Thamarpally Srija, a second-year BCA student, since their Class 10 days. Both families were reportedly aware of the relationship. According to police, he had gone to Srija’s home in Srujana Laxmi Nagar colony on Tuesday morning after being called to discuss the couple’s future and proposed marriage.


Argument Over Pregnancy Turns Violent


Investigations revealed that Srija, who is three months pregnant, got into a heated argument with her mother, Siri, over the pregnancy. The altercation escalated, and in a fit of rage, the mother allegedly attacked both her daughter and Sravan Sai with a cricket bat. Sravan suffered blows to his back, forehead, and shoulder while attempting to shield Srija. She also sustained a fracture in her right arm.


Despite the assault, all three remained in the house. Later in the day, Srija and her mother visited a nearby hospital for a gynaecological check-up and returned home around 11.30 p.m.


Victim Collapses, Dies in Hospital


Around 3.30 a.m. on Wednesday, Sravan complained of severe breathlessness. He was rushed to a private hospital in KPHB and then shifted to another facility in Nizampet for further treatment. Doctors declared him brought dead at around 6.30 a.m.


Police have recovered the cricket bat used in the assault. The victim’s body has been sent for post-mortem.


Case Registered; Investigation On


A case of murder has been registered by Ameenpur Police against the accused. However, the mother has not yet been taken into custody as she is attending to her injured daughter in the hospital.


Inspector Naresh of Ameenpur Circle confirmed that further investigation is underway to determine the sequence of events and the culpability of each individual involved.
