Bengaluru, Karnataka, INDIA: In yet another disturbing case of road rage in the city, a 23-year-old software engineer was arrested for intentionally ramming his car into a scooter carrying a couple and their young child after getting enraged over honking. The shocking incident, which occurred on October 26, was captured on CCTV and has triggered widespread outrage over reckless and aggressive driving on Bengaluru’s roads.
The accused, Sukrit Keshav Gowda, a resident of Kodigehalli and an employee of a private tech company in Whitefield, has been arrested and remanded to judicial custody.
The Incident
According to the Sadashivanagar police, the incident unfolded around 7:11 pm on New BEL Road near MS Ramaiah Hospital. Gowda was driving a red Tata Curvv in a free left-turn lane when a scooter, ridden by Vineth A (33) with his wife Anikita Patel (31) and their child, stopped behind him. When Vineth honked to signal the car to give way, Gowda grew infuriated.
After a brief verbal altercation, the family proceeded ahead toward Indiranagar. However, Gowda reportedly followed them for a short distance. As the scooter moved to the right side of the road near the divider, Gowda allegedly accelerated and deliberately rammed into the two-wheeler from behind.
The impact hurled the couple and their child onto the road, and their Honda Dio crashed into the median. Instead of helping, Gowda sped away from the spot, police said.
Victims Injured, Passersby Rush to Help
Passersby immediately rushed the injured family to MS Ramaiah Hospital. While Anikita Patel sustained injuries to her left hand, shoulder, and the back of her head, Vineth suffered injuries to his left rib. The couple’s child escaped with minor injuries. Vineth later sought further treatment at St John’s Hospital in Koramangala after the pain worsened.
CCTV Footage Exposes Deliberate Attack
Initially registered as a hit-and-run case by the Sadashivanagar Traffic Police, the case took a serious turn after CCTV footage revealed that the collision was intentional. The matter was transferred to the Sadashivanagar Law & Order Police Station, where Inspector Girish launched a detailed probe.
Using CCTV evidence, police traced Gowda and arrested him near Balaji Layout on November 6. During interrogation, he allegedly confessed that he was enraged because the scooter rider honked at him “despite being on a two-wheeler.”
Attempted Murder Charge
Based on the evidence and Gowda’s admission, police have registered a case of attempt to murder under Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The accused has been sent to judicial custody, and further investigation is underway.
A Stark Reminder About Road Rage
This incident underscores the grave danger posed by uncontrolled anger on the roads. A moment of impatience not only endangered the lives of an innocent family but also led a young professional to face serious criminal charges that could irreversibly alter his future.
