Thane, Maharashtra, INDIA: The Maharashtra Police on November 25 arrested a 50-year-old man for allegedly murdering his live-in partner, storing her body at home for a day, and later stuffing it into a suitcase before dumping it near a creek in Thane district.

The accused, identified as Vinod Srinivas Vishwakarma, allegedly killed his 22-year-old partner Priyanka Vishwakarma on November 21 after a heated argument at their residence. Police said the couple had been living together for nearly five years.

Body Discovered Near Desai Creek

The incident came to light on Monday November 24 when locals spotted a suitcase lying under a bridge near Desai village, close to the creek. Upon inspection, police recovered the body of a young woman, which bore signs of decomposition. Officers also noted a tattoo with the initials “P V S” on her wrist, which later aided in establishing her identity.

According to Manpada Police Station Senior Inspector Sandipan Shinde, the victim had been beaten and later strangled to death. The suitcase was used to conceal the body for disposal at the creek.

Stench Forces Disposal, Says Police

During interrogation, Vinod revealed that after killing Priyanka, he kept her body inside their house for a full day. As decomposition began and foul smell spread across the premises, he decided to dispose of the body. He allegedly stuffed the remains into a suitcase and on the night of November 22, carried it to the creek bridge and threw it off.

Accused Tracked Down Using CCTV & Social Media

After the body was discovered, police launched a detailed investigation. CCTV footage from the area around the creek and digital footprints on social media helped officers trace Vinod’s movements. He was apprehended on Tuesday.

Following his arrest, Vinod reportedly confessed to the murder and explained how the crime unfolded. Investigators said the couple frequently quarrelled, and the fatal altercation on November 21 escalated to violence, culminating in Priyanka’s death by strangulation.

Case Registered for Murder and Evidence Destruction

Police have booked the accused under charges of murder and causing the disappearance of evidence. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact sequence of events and the trigger behind the confrontation.

Separately, police said the body of another unidentified woman, believed to be in her late 30s, was found stuffed in a suitcase on the banks of Desai Creek on Monday—raising concerns about two similarly grisly discoveries in the same region. However, officials clarified that the two cases are distinct and are being investigated separately.
