Vikarabad, Telangana, INDIA: In a horrifying case of domestic violence, a 42-year-old daily wage labourer allegedly murdered his wife, two daughters, and his sister-in-law before dying by suicide at his residence in Kulkacherla mandal of Vikarabad district in the early hours of Sunday November 2.

Police identified the accused as Vepuri Yadaiah, a resident of Kulkacherla village. According to investigators, the incident occurred between 2:30 am and 3 am, when Yadaiah, reportedly consumed by suspicion and rage, launched a brutal attack on his family members while they were asleep.

Armed with a sickle, Yadaiah first attacked his sister-in-law, Hanumamma (40), who had been staying with the family to help resolve ongoing marital disputes. When his wife, Alivelu (35), tried to intervene, he turned the weapon on her, inflicting fatal wounds. He then attacked his two daughters — Aparna (13) and Shravani (10). While Shravani died on the spot, Aparna miraculously survived with severe head injuries and managed to escape.

“After attacking the family, Yadaiah reportedly hanged himself inside the house,” said Vikarabad SP K. Narayana Reddy. “The elder daughter, Aparna, ran to the neighbours for help despite her injuries. She was rushed to a nearby hospital and is currently stable.”

Preliminary investigations revealed that Yadaiah had been quarrelling with his wife for several years, allegedly suspecting her fidelity. The couple, both daily wage earners, had recently been counselled by village elders to settle their disputes, but tensions remained high.

According to police, on Saturday evening, the couple had a heated argument after which Alivelu briefly left home. Later that night, she returned and called her sister Hanumamma for support. The family appeared to have reconciled and gone to bed, unaware of the violence to come.

In her statement from the hospital, Aparna recounted the harrowing sequence of events.

“My father first attacked my aunt while she was asleep. When my mother tried to save her, he killed her too,” she told the police. “He then said, ‘What will you do after they die, and who will look after you?’ before attacking me and my sister. My sister died on the spot. I somehow escaped and ran outside.”

Police received a distress call through the ‘Dial 100’ emergency helpline around 3 a.m. and reached the scene shortly thereafter. Forensic teams recovered the sickle and other evidence from the site.

SP Narayana Reddy said the bodies of Alivelu, Shravani, and Hanumamma have been sent for post-mortem at the Vikarabad government hospital. “We have registered a case under Section 302 of the IPC (murder) and other relevant sections. The investigation is ongoing to determine if any prior complaints or counselling records exist,” the officer added.

Locals described Yadaiah as “short-tempered and antisocial,” known for frequent arguments with his wife and neighbours. “Village elders had tried to intervene many times, but he would not listen,” said a resident.
