Jaipur, Rajasthan, INDIA: A nine-year-old student of a private school in Jaipur died on Saturday November 1 after allegedly falling from the fourth floor of the school building, sparking outrage among parents and allegations of negligence and harassment against the school authorities.

According to police, the incident occurred around 10:30 am at Neerja Modi School in the Mansarovar area. The Class 4 student was found critically injured after falling from a height of nearly 48 feet. She was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Mansarovar Police Station SHO Lakhan Khatana said that “prima facie, it appears to be a case of suicide,” but added that a detailed investigation is underway. The girl’s parents, however, have lodged an FIR accusing the school administration and staff of negligence and alleging that their daughter was harassed by a teacher.

The victim, an only child, lived with her parents in Mansarovar. Her mother works in the banking sector, while her father is employed in a private firm.

Tension escalated when officials from the Education Department who arrived at the school for inspection were allegedly denied entry. Despite orders from Education Minister Madan Dilawar for a detailed probe, the school management reportedly refused to cooperate and did not open the gates for officials.

Abhishek Jain Bittu, spokesperson of the Sanyukta Abhibhavak Sangh (Joint Parents’ Association of Rajasthan), claimed that the child had been under severe stress due to alleged harassment by her teacher. “According to students and our sources, she was reluctant to attend school today. When the harassment continued, she reportedly ran from her classroom on the first floor to the fourth floor before jumping,” he said.

He further alleged that the school staff washed the area where the girl fell, erasing crucial evidence such as bloodstains. “We want a thorough government-led investigation and strict action against those responsible,” Bittu added.

In a statement, the Joint Parents’ Association said the incident had “shocked the education community,” especially as it occurred within the premises of one of Jaipur’s most prestigious schools. Association president Arvind Agarwal and spokesperson Abhishek Jain Bittu, who visited the site, accused the school of withholding information and attempting to destroy evidence.

Police have launched an investigation based on the FIR filed by the parents. The school principal has not yet issued a statement or responded to calls and messages.

Authorities have assured that all aspects of the case—including alleged teacher misconduct and possible tampering with the crime scene—will be thoroughly examined.
