Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, INDIA: In a daring daylight theft caught on camera, a couple posing as customers managed to steal a gold necklace worth ₹6 lakh from a jewellery store in Bulandshahr with the ease and precision of seasoned tricksters.

The incident unfolded earlier this week when the duo walked into the store and asked staff to show them a selection of gold necklaces. As the salesman laid out ornaments for display, the woman, dressed in a saree, discreetly slipped one of the necklaces into her lap while pretending to inspect another.

In a move that went unnoticed by the shop staff, she calmly covered the concealed necklace with her saree while continuing to examine other pieces. At one point, she cleverly placed a different necklace back on the counter to maintain the illusion of honesty.

Meanwhile, her male accomplice kept the staff distracted by inquiring about the prices and designs of various ornaments. Using this moment of diversion, the woman tucked the stolen necklace under her arm before both of them claimed they did not find anything suitable and left the store casually.

The theft went undetected until the store conducted its routine inventory check, revealing a shortage of six grams of gold. On reviewing CCTV footage, the shop owner discovered the entire act had been captured on camera — from the couple’s entry to the subtle sleight of hand used in the theft.

Following the discovery, the jeweller lodged a formal complaint with the local police. Authorities have since launched a search operation to trace the couple and recover the stolen jewellery.

“The CCTV footage is being closely examined. The accused will be identified and arrested soon,” a senior police officer said.

The incident has sparked concern among local jewellers, who have been urged to remain vigilant and ensure that CCTV surveillance and staff monitoring are active at all times.
