Karimnagar, Telangana, INDIA:  In a case of premeditated murder allegedly inspired by a YouTube video, police in Karimnagar have arrested a woman, her lover, and his associate for the killing of her husband by pouring pesticide into his ear.

The victim, Sampath, worked as a sweeper at a local library and reportedly had frequent altercations with his wife, Ramadevi, due to his alcohol addiction. Ramadevi, meanwhile, supported the family by running a small snacks stall and caring for their two children.

According to police, Ramadevi developed an illicit relationship with a 50-year-old man named Karre Rajayya, whom she met during her business activities. Their affair soon turned into a murder conspiracy, with Ramadevi allegedly expressing a desire to eliminate her husband.

Investigators said Ramadevi stumbled upon a YouTube video that claimed a person could be killed instantly by pouring pesticide into their ear. She allegedly shared this idea with Rajayya and his friend, identified as Srinivas.

On the night of the crime, Rajayya and Srinivas reportedly lured Sampath to the Bommakal flyover under the pretext of drinking together. Once Sampath became heavily intoxicated and lost consciousness, Rajayya allegedly poured pesticide into his ear, resulting in his death. The duo then called Ramadevi to inform her that the plan had been executed.

The following day, Ramadevi filed a missing person complaint to mislead the police. However, Sampath’s body was discovered on August 1, raising suspicions. Investigators noted inconsistencies in Ramadevi’s behaviour, particularly her refusal to permit a post-mortem. Her son further complicated the cover-up by expressing doubts about the cause of his father’s death.

Karimnagar police launched a deeper probe and uncovered crucial evidence including call records between Ramadevi and Rajayya, along with CCTV footage that corroborated their movements on the night of the murder.

All three suspects have been arrested and booked under charges of murder and criminal conspiracy. Police are also investigating the source and veracity of the video that allegedly inspired the crime.

Authorities have expressed concern over the misuse of social media platforms to spread harmful content and have urged the public to report any such dangerous material online.
