Villupuram, Tamil Nadu, INDIA: A 17-year-old Class XI student died after suddenly collapsing in his classroom at a private school in Villupuram on Wednesday August 13 morning, sending shockwaves through the local community.
The deceased, identified as K. Mohanraj, a resident of Virattikuppam Road, had arrived at Saraswathi Matric Higher Secondary School around 7 am to attend special classes before the start of regular school hours. Moments after taking his seat in the classroom, he fainted and slumped to the floor.
Teachers and staff rushed him to a nearby private hospital. Due to limited facilities, he was referred to another private hospital in the town, where doctors declared him brought dead. His body was later shifted to the Government Villupuram Medical College Hospital in Mundiampakkam for a post-mortem examination.
Police from Villupuram West Police Station have registered a case and are investigating the cause of death, including whether it was due to any underlying health condition. Over 50 police personnel were deployed at the school to maintain order following the incident.
A CCTV camera in the classroom captured the moment Mohanraj collapsed, and the footage has since gone viral on social media.
Speaking to reporters, his mother, K. Maheshwari, who works as a village assistant, said: “He did not have any health issues. He used to climb the steps to his classroom on the fourth floor every day. I do not know what happened. I have lost my son.”
Following the incident, the school was closed for the day. Police personnel were deployed for security.
