Kozhikode, Kerala, INIDA: A 64-year-old woman was pushed off the slowly moving Sampark Kranti Express and robbed of cash and a mobile phone shortly after the train left Kozhikode railway station on Friday August 8 morning, Railway Police said.

The victim, who was travelling with her brother from Panvel in Maharashtra to Thrissur in Kerala, was attacked around 5 a.m., moments after the train departed Kozhikode. According to police, the woman alleged that the assailant appeared to be from outside Kerala.

The incident occurred when she was standing near the train door, waiting for her brother to return from the toilet. The attacker allegedly attempted to snatch her bag containing over ₹8,000 and a mobile phone. When she resisted, he pushed her off the train, jumped down after her, grabbed her belongings, and fled.

The train was moving slowly as it had just left the station, but the woman suffered a deep head wound after falling onto the tracks. She was initially taken to a nearby hospital and later shifted to Kozhikode Medical College, where she was treated and discharged the same day.

Recounting the ordeal to a television channel, the woman said she had grabbed the attacker’s shirt in an attempt to stop him. “He pushed me, and I fell backward onto the tracks. Another train was approaching, and passengers shouted for me to move. I managed to get up and get clear before it arrived. I was drenched in blood,” she said.

Passengers pulled the emergency chain to stop the Sampark Kranti Express following the incident. Railway Police have formed a special team to track down the suspect.
