Bengaluru, Karnataka, INDIA: The body of an unidentified woman, bound and stuffed inside a large sack, was discovered in the back of a garbage truck in southern Bengaluru early Sunday 29 June 2025, authorities said, sparking widespread public outrage and a full-scale police investigation.
The grim discovery was made in the Chennammanakere Achukattu area by a local resident who had come to dispose of household trash. Suspicious of the unusually heavy sack in the garbage vehicle, the resident alerted the police. Responding officers recovered the body, believed to be that of a woman between the ages of 30 and 35.
Early forensic assessments suggest the woman may have been smothered, although officials said definitive conclusions will be drawn following autopsy and lab tests, including checks for possible sexual assault.
Investigators believe the body was dumped in the truck sometime between late Saturday 28 June night and the early hours of Sunday 29 June. Surveillance footage from the neighbourhood revealed an auto-rickshaw suspected of transporting the sack to the site. Authorities are currently working to trace the vehicle and its occupants.
“The manner in which the body was disposed of is deeply disturbing,” said a senior Bengaluru police official on the condition of anonymity, citing the ongoing investigation. “We are treating this as a clear case of homicide.”
No identification documents were found with the victim, and police have appealed to the public for any information that could help in identifying her or the individuals involved in the crime.
The incident has shocked residents of the area, many of whom gathered outside the police station demanding swift justice. “How can someone be thrown away like garbage?” said one resident, visibly shaken. “We don’t feel safe anymore.”
Local women’s rights groups have also condemned the killing, urging the authorities to take immediate action and bolster protections for women in the city.
As of Tuesday 1 July morning, the victim remains unidentified, and no arrests have been made
