New Delhi, INDIA: A 29-year-old woman has been arrested for allegedly murdering her husband in outer Delhi’s Nihal Vihar and attempting to pass it off as a suicide. The accused, identified as Farzana Khan, allegedly killed her husband, Mohammad Shahid alias Irfan (32), due to dissatisfaction in their relationship and later fabricated a story to mislead police.

The incident occurred on the evening of July 20, when Farzana brought her husband to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital with multiple stab wounds and claimed he had taken his own life. Shahid was declared dead on arrival. Initially, she told authorities that he was depressed over gambling-related debts and had stabbed himself.

However, police grew suspicious after the post-mortem examination revealed three stab wounds on Shahid’s chest, one of which was fatal and deemed inconsistent with self-infliction. Doctors informed investigators that the injuries suggested a frontal attack.

Acting on these findings, the Nihal Vihar Police registered a case of murder and initiated a deeper investigation. During questioning, officers conducted a forensic examination of Farzana’s mobile phone, uncovering an internet search history that included phrases such as “ways to kill a person,” “using poisonous substances like aluminium phosphide (sulphas),” and “how to delete chat histories.”

When confronted with this digital evidence, Farzana reportedly confessed to the murder. She told investigators that she was unhappy in the marriage, citing dissatisfaction with her husband's physical relationship, his online gambling addiction, and mounting financial debts. She also admitted to having an extramarital affair with Shahid’s cousin, who lives in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh—the couple’s native place.

According to officials, Farzana stabbed Shahid three times in the chest, then attempted to cover up the crime by taking him to the hospital herself and claiming suicide.

The murder weapon, a knife, has been recovered. Farzana is currently in police custody, and further investigation is underway to determine whether any accomplices were involved or if the affair played a larger role in the motive.
