Bengaluru, Karnataka, INDIA: A 30-year-old software engineer working with Infosys was arrested by the Electronics City Police on Wednesday 2 July 2025 for allegedly recording videos of his female colleagues inside an office washroom on the company’s campus in Bengaluru.
The accused, identified as Swapnil Nagesh Mali from Sangli, Maharashtra, worked as a technical analyst at Infosys. He had joined the firm only three months ago.
According to the police, the incident took place on Monday, 30 June 2025, at the third-floor women’s washroom in the IQE wing of Building 38 on the Infosys campus. A female employee, working as a technical test lead, became suspicious after noticing unusual reflections in the mirror and subtle movements from the adjacent stall.
When she climbed onto the commode to investigate, she allegedly found Nagesh standing on a toilet seat in the neighboring stall with his mobile phone pointed at her. She immediately raised an alarm. Responding to her cries, two HR executives rushed to the spot and caught the accused red-handed.
Infosys’s HR team reportedly found the objectionable videos on his phone and deleted them in the presence of the complainant. However, when police examined the device, they were able to retrieve two deleted videos from the recycle bin. The mobile phone has since been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for further analysis to determine whether additional content had been recorded or shared.
The First Information Report (FIR) was registered on Tuesday 1 July 2025 based on the woman’s complaint. Investigators believe there may be more victims, as one of the retrieved videos allegedly features another female employee.
Nagesh has been charged under Section 77 (voyeurism) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 66E (violation of privacy) of the Information Technology Act. He was produced before a magistrate on Wednesday, and the police have launched a deeper probe to ascertain the full extent of his actions.
Infosys Responds
In an official statement, Infosys confirmed the incident and emphasized its zero-tolerance approach to harassment.
“We are aware of this incident and have taken necessary action against the employee, who is now separated from the company. We also promptly supported the complainant in filing a police complaint and continue to cooperate with the authorities. Infosys is committed to providing a safe and harassment-free environment, and we take every complaint related to the Code of Conduct very seriously,” said an Infosys spokesperson.
The incident has triggered serious concerns over workplace safety and privacy within corporate offices, with employees calling for stricter surveillance and preventive measures to ensure such violations do not recur.
