Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra, INDIA: A 35-year-old female teacher from Ulwe has been arrested by the Koparkhairane police for allegedly engaging in sexually inappropriate behaviour with a Class 10 student over social media. The teacher has been booked under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act following a complaint lodged by the boy's father.

According to police sources, the accused, who taught at a private school in Koparkhairane where the minor studied, had been sending sexually explicit messages to the boy on Instagram over a period of time. The exchanges later escalated to semi-nude video calls, which reportedly took place between Sunday July 27 evening and Monday July 28 morning.

The incident came to light when the boy’s mother discovered a recording of the video chat on his phone. Disturbed by the nature of the content, she questioned her son, who disclosed the teacher’s actions. The family then approached the police, resulting in the teacher’s immediate arrest.

Koparkhairane Police registered a First Information Report (FIR) under Sections 11 and 12 of the POCSO Act, which deal with sexual harassment of a child. The teacher’s phone has been seized, and investigators are scanning her social media accounts for further evidence.

“There are indications that the accused may have engaged in similar behaviour with other students. We have identified at least two more children who may be victims, although no additional complaints have been formally received yet,” said a senior police officer.

The incident has sparked outrage among parents and educators, raising serious concerns about the misuse of digital platforms by those in positions of authority. It has also reignited calls for stricter monitoring of online interactions between teachers and students, and better safeguards in schools to prevent abuse.

The investigation is ongoing, and the police have stated that they are continuing to question students and verify if there are more victims.
