Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, INDIA: In a gruesome and disturbing crime that has shocked residents of Bhopal, a 32-year-old unemployed man has been arrested for allegedly murdering his live-in partner out of jealousy and then spending two days in the same room with her decomposing body.

The incident took place in the Gayatri Nagar area of Bhopal, where the accused, Sachin Rajput, is reported to have strangled Ritika Sen, 29, following a heated argument on the night of June 27. According to police, Sachin suspected Ritika—who worked at a private firm—of having an affair with her boss, which led to a violent altercation that ended in murder.

Instead of alerting the authorities, Sachin wrapped Ritika’s body in a blanket and left it on their bed, continuing to stay in the room while consuming alcohol heavily. He reportedly slept beside the body for two days, spiraling into a state of shock and fear.

The crime came to light only after Sachin, in an intoxicated state, confessed to a friend, Anuj, in Misrod on Sunday. Initially dismissing the claim as a drunken outburst, Anuj took the matter seriously when Sachin repeated the confession the following morning. He contacted the police on Monday around 5 p.m.

When officers from Bajaria police station reached the couple’s rented accommodation, they discovered Ritika’s body still wrapped in the same blanket, lying on the bed as described.

“They had been in a live-in relationship for about three and a half years,” said police station in-charge Shilpa Kaurav. “Sachin Rajput, who is married with two children, was living with Ritika Sen. On the night of June 27, a fight broke out between them. In a fit of rage, he strangled her and then stayed in the same room with her body.”

Sachin, a native of Sironj in Vidisha district, had moved into the Gayatri Nagar residence with Ritika approximately nine months ago. While Ritika was employed, Sachin remained jobless and increasingly suspicious of her actions.

He has been taken into custody, and a case of murder has been registered against him. The post-mortem report is awaited, and further investigation is underway.
