Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, INDIA: A 19-year-old girl was found brutally murdered in a cornfield in the Mainather area of Moradabad district, Uttar Pradesh, on June 1, a day after she went missing. According to police, the young woman was allegedly killed by a man who claimed to be her boyfriend.
An autopsy conducted on June 2 revealed that the victim had sustained more than 40 stab wounds across her body, including in sensitive areas, and had died due to excessive bleeding. There were no signs of sexual assault, but officials described the injuries as a deliberate act of violence.
The accused, identified as 20-year-old Mohammad Rafi, was arrested and taken into custody. During police interrogation, he allegedly confessed to the crime, stating that he was enraged over the victim’s recent conversations with another man. He reportedly attempted to strangle her and, after she lost consciousness, stabbed her multiple times with a screwdriver.
“There was a deep wound on her neck, and several injuries were inflicted on her private parts with a sharp object,” a senior police official told local media.
According to Station House Officer Karan Pal Singh, Rafi, a poultry vendor by profession, had been in contact with the victim for over a year and had even gifted her a mobile phone.
A First Information Report (FIR) has been filed under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to murder, following a formal complaint lodged by the victim’s mother.
The mother said her daughter had left home on Saturday May 31 evening to collect fodder for goats but did not return. After a frantic search, her body was discovered in a field near the village. The family had previously raised concerns about Rafi’s persistent harassment and pressure on the girl to enter into a relationship.
Authorities have stated that a chargesheet will be filed soon, and the investigation is ongoing.
