Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh, INDIA: A 45-year-old woman has died following a horrific gang rape and brutal assault in the Khalwa area of Khandwa district, Madhya Pradesh, India. The woman’s death, which occurred on Saturday May 24, 2025, afternoon, has sent shockwaves through the region. A preliminary medical examination has revealed gruesome injuries, including a ruptured uterus and protruding intestines, believed to have been caused by the insertion of a foreign object.

According to local police, the incident took place on the night of Friday, May 23, following a wedding celebration in the village under the jurisdiction of Khalwa police station. The woman, a resident of the same village, had attended the event and later accompanied a man identified as Hari Korku to his residence. Another individual, Sudhir, is reported to have joined them shortly afterward. Witnesses claim the trio were seen consuming alcohol at Hari’s home that evening.

On Saturday morning, Hari’s mother discovered the woman lying severely injured in the courtyard. Around 7 am, she notified the victim’s children, who found their mother unconscious and soaked in blood. The woman reportedly named her assailants before succumbing to her injuries around 1 pm the same day.

Disturbingly, the victim's family did not immediately inform police. It was only after her death that authorities were contacted. Upon receiving the report, local police launched an investigation and promptly arrested the two suspects — Hari Korku, 36, and Sunil Korku, 32 — both of whom are neighbours and acquaintances of the deceased.

The woman’s body was transported to Khandwa District Hospital, where a three-member medical board conducted a post-mortem. A source involved in the autopsy confirmed that her intestines were exposed and her uterus had ruptured — injuries consistent with the insertion of a hand or a blunt object such as a liquor bottle. The body also bore signs of multiple injuries and blunt-force trauma. Doctors believe excessive internal bleeding led to her death.

The last rites of the deceased were conducted on Monday morning, following the release of her body to the family.

Speaking to reporters, Additional Superintendent of Police Rajesh Raghuvanshi confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and the case will be tried in a fast-track court. "Both accused have been remanded to judicial custody. This is a deeply disturbing case, and justice will be pursued with urgency," he said.

The incident has sparked political uproar as it occurred in the Harsud assembly constituency, represented by Madhya Pradesh Minister Vijay Shah. Minister Shah had recently faced public backlash for making derogatory remarks toward a female officer in the Indian Army. The opposition has seized upon the incident to highlight concerns over law and order in the state.
