Hyderabad, India – Police authorities in the southern Indian city of Hyderabad have swiftly solved a double murder case, arresting a repeat offender within 72 hours of the crime. The victims—an elderly couple—were found brutally killed in their home, with investigators later confirming robbery as the motive.
The incident came to light on May 4, when Bojja Latha, a resident of Machabollarum—a major locality within the Alwal Circle of the Secunderabad Zone—reported the death of her parents, Kanakaiah and Rajamma. Both were found lying lifeless on their beds in a residence in Alwal, bearing fatal head injuries and extensive bleeding.
Latha and her husband, both employed as security personnel in a nearby apartment, stated that her ailing parents had moved close to her residence about five months earlier. On the evening of May 3, the couple had visited her home and returned to their own house around 8:00 p.m. The next morning, at around 7:30 a.m., Latha discovered their bodies while going out to deliver milk.
A preliminary investigation revealed that valuables were missing from the home. Among the stolen items were a traditional gold chain known as a pustela thadu, weighing approximately 2 tolas (23.32 grams), and silver anklets totalling about 25 tolas (291.59 grams).
The case was assigned to a joint task force comprising Alwal Police, the Central Crime Station (CCS) Medchal, and the Special Operations Team (SOT) of the Medchal Zone. Investigators reviewed more than 100 CCTV feeds and cross-referenced data from known criminal databases.
Their efforts led to the arrest of Chinthakindi Anil Kumar, a 40-year-old resident of Krishna Nagar Colony in Machabollarum. Kumar, a known habitual offender, has a record spanning 21 theft cases, one robbery, three incidents of extortion, two attempted murders, and two rape-cum-murder convictions. His name features in the “depredator sheet” maintained by Alwal Police Station, identifying him as a high-risk repeat offender.
Investigators determined that Kumar acted alone, breaking into the victims' residence with the intent to rob and killing them during the act. His arrest has brought relief to the local community and a measure of justice to the bereaved family.
Police officials have credited swift inter-departmental coordination, meticulous CCTV analysis, and prior intelligence gathering for the resolution of the case. Formal charges are being prepared under applicable sections of the Indian Penal Code.
