Patna,
India — A 35-year-old man was arrested on April 7 in Bihar state’s Aurangabad
district for allegedly mutilating the genitals of a man accused of raping his
sister-in-law, and injuring another who was reportedly involved in the
incident.
According to the police, the suspect, whose identity is being withheld pending formal charges, lured two men to his residence under the pretext of hiring their transport services. Once inside, he allegedly used a sharp blade to sever the genitals of 25-year-old Nitish Ravidas and fractured the leg of 24-year-old Jeevit Ravidas, who attempted to intervene.
Both victims are currently undergoing treatment under police supervision at a government hospital.
Police investigations reveal that on March 27, the victim's 20-year-old sister-in-law was allegedly sexually assaulted by Nitish and Jeevit while she was alone at home. Initially hesitant to report the incident out of fear, she later confided in her brother-in-law, which reportedly triggered the retaliatory act.
Sadar Sub-divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Amit Kumar confirmed that law enforcement received reports of a grievous injury early April 6 morning. “The local Station House Officer, Kumar Saurav, responded to the scene and confirmed the incident. Subsequent investigations established a prior rape allegation against Nitish and Jeevit,” he said.
Two separate First Information Reports (FIRs) have been filed—one naming Nitish and Jeevit in the alleged sexual assault case, and another charging the brother-in-law with grievous assault and unlawful confinement.
“As of now, both cases are under parallel investigation, and appropriate legal action will follow based on the findings,” the SDPO added.
The incident has sparked debate locally, highlighting both the trauma of sexual violence and the volatile reactions it can provoke in the absence of timely justice.
