In a shocking case, the burnt body of a 25-year-old woman was discovered stuffed inside a suitcase and charred by fire on the roadside in East Delhi’s Ghazipur area in India, on January 26. Within 24 hours, the police arrested two suspects, including the victim’s cousin, for the crime.
Motive Behind the Murder
According to Delhi Police, the accused, Amit Tiwari (22), a taxi driver, and his cousin Anuj Kumar (20), a welder, both residents of Ghaziabad’s Khora Colony, killed the woman after she allegedly pressured Amit to leave his family and live with her. She had also threatened to falsely implicate him and his family if he refused. Unable to handle the pressure, Amit and Anuj planned and executed the murder.
Execution of the Crime
To destroy evidence, Amit purchased petrol and stubble. The accused placed the suitcase with the body in an isolated area due to heightened security in Delhi ahead of the assembly elections and set it on fire.
The police received a PCR call about the burnt body. A forensic team and crime investigators were immediately called to the scene. Upon arrival, officers found the charred remains of a woman, estimated to be between 20 and 35 years old, inside a burnt suitcase. The body was then sent to the LBS Hospital mortuary for further examination.
How Police Cracked the Case
A breakthrough came through CCTV footage, which captured a taxi linked to the crime. Using technical surveillance and mobile tracking, the police traced the vehicle, identified its owner, and arrested the suspects. During interrogation, both Amit and Anuj confessed to the crime. The taxi used in the murder has been impounded as evidence.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Abhishek Dhania confirmed the arrests and stated that multiple teams worked under Additional DCP Vinit Kumar to solve the case swiftly. Further investigations are ongoing.
