In a selfless act of bravery, and only concerned about the safety of her toddler brother, an 8-year-old girl at a village in India faced a raging cow which charged at them and protected the toddler from being gored by the cow.
The whole incident has been captured in the CCTV camera installed by her father outside his jewellery shop.
The incident took place on February 13 at Navilagone village in Honnavar taluka of Uttar Kannada district in Karnataka state, India.
The girl, Arati, was playing with her brother Kartik, on the porch of their house. She is seen pushing a baby push car on which Kartik is seated. A cow comes barging on the road, and when it comes close to their house, it turns towards them and barges at the playing children.
As the cow appeared to go for her brother, Arati picked him up and ran towards a corner. The cow followed, its horns coming tantalisingly close to the boy. Kartik seemed to be slipping but Arati held onto him tightly and quickly turned towards the wall, her back to the cow. The angry animal tried to gore her and she screamed.
Hearing her screams her family members rushed to her rescue and drove the cow away.
Her brave and timely act was captured by the CCTV camera attached to her father’s jewellery shop.
The cow, her father Kiran Shet – an insurance adviser and jeweler – opined was apparently drawn by Kartik’s red shirt.
Arati said it was all over in a matter or one or two minutes. “I had no time to think. At that moment, my only aim was to save my brother,” Arati said.
After the video went viral, Arati has become the talk of the town for the bravery she displayed.
